Soldiers belonging to Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), working alongside the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, successfully prevented a terrorist strike at the Tor Donga Yam Market in Benue State. During the confrontation, two suspects were killed and various weapons were seized.
Maj.-Gen. Moses Gara, the Force Commander of OPWS, announced the event in a statement released in Makurdi on Sunday through Lt. Ahmad Zubairu. The military responded immediately after receiving a distress signal while patrolling the area. An intense firefight ensued, leading to the deaths of the two suspects, known as Dantaraba and Golozo.
The security personnel confiscated several items from the scene, including an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, a broken pistol, a pistol magazine, fifteen rounds of assorted ammunition, and various personal cards. These actions protected the local market, allowing commerce to proceed uninterrupted.
Maj.-Gen. Gara lauded the military units for their quick action and professional conduct, which likely saved numerous lives. He also acknowledged the vital assistance provided by the Benue State Civil Protection Guard and local citizens, noting that community cooperation is essential for maintaining peace in the region.
