An ambush on a combined security patrol in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State has resulted in the deaths of a Police Inspector and a Nigerian Air Force corporal. Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the attack occurred around 5:00 am on August 4.
The incident involved four personnel who had established a temporary checkpoint along the Ganawuri–Sabon Gida Road. When two members of the group did not return to their assigned posts, a search operation was initiated. This mission led to the recovery of the bodies of Inspector John Zakaria of the Nigeria Police Force and Lance Corporal Mohammed Musa of the Nigerian Air Force. Their service weapons were missing from the scene.
Reports indicate the victims’ motorcycle was found, and their remains were moved from the area. Preliminary investigations suggest the assault took place near a location previously occupied by suspected Fulani herders who had departed before reinforcements arrived. The site is situated in proximity to a Berom community.
In response, security forces have initiated search operations in nearby villages to locate the perpetrators and retrieve the stolen firearms. Military and police agencies remain active in the region to determine the facts surrounding the assault.
