Father Angelo rejects police explanation regarding viral armed men video

Father Angelo Chidi Unegbu has disputed the police’s claim that armed men shown in a viral video are simply local vigilantes, calling the official statement a lie.

Catholic priest Angelo Chidi Unegbu has formally challenged the Nigeria Police Force’s assertion that a group of heavily armed men seen in a widely circulated video are local hunters or vigilantes. The footage, which gained traction on social media, depicts several men armed with rifles traveling on motorcycles, accompanied by a police officer who appears to wave at them.

Observers in the recording, speaking in Hausa, identified the riders as bandits, though some passengers in the background expressed caution about making such labels. In response to the growing public outcry, police spokesperson Anietie Iniedu stated that the individuals were authorized members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria and registered hunters assisting with security efforts in the Musawa and Matazu districts of Katsina State.

Father Angelo dismissed this official narrative via a Facebook post, labeling the police statement a blatant falsehood. He argued that the visual evidence of officers interacting with and clearing a path for these armed individuals contradicts the official version of events, describing the police response as an insult to the public intelligence.
