Kaduna Police Intercept Kidnapping Operation, Nine Rescued

Kaduna police rescued nine kidnap victims in Birnin Gwari but lost two officers during an ambush on the return journey.

Law enforcement officials in Kaduna State have successfully disrupted a kidnapping plot in the Birnin Gwari area, securing the release of nine captives. DSP Mansir Hassan, the state police spokesperson, confirmed that the operation followed reports of roughly 15 armed individuals gathering near Unguwan Sa’idu Village on Wednesday afternoon.

Upon receiving intelligence, local police leadership organized a response force comprising mobile unit officers and Kaduna Vigilante Service members. The security team confronted the armed group, forcing the criminals to retreat into the wilderness and abandon their hostages. The nine individuals—Hudu Rabiu, Yusuf Sagir, Sagir Rabiu, Muhammad Kabir, Kabir Lawal, Idris Abubakar, Mustapha Zayyanu, Kabiru Rabiu, and Usman Lawal—were found bound but physically uninjured and have since returned to their homes.

Tragically, the mission concluded with a heavy cost. Two police officers were killed in an ambush by suspected bandits while traveling back from the rescue site. Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad extended his condolences to the families of the fallen officers, highlighting their commitment to public safety. Authorities are currently conducting investigations to locate and prosecute those responsible for both the kidnapping and the subsequent ambush.
