Governor Alia Commends National Assembly for Passing State Police Bill

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has praised the National Assembly for the passage of the State Police Bill, calling it a vital move to improve national security.

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, expressed his appreciation to the National Assembly for the passage of the State Police Bill. This legislative achievement is considered a significant advancement in enhancing national security.

In a Thursday announcement via his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, the governor highlighted that the law, which allows state police entities to function alongside the Nigeria Police Force, is a courageous measure against rising insecurity. Governor Alia has long advocated for localized policing, believing that moving away from a centralized system will bolster safety for both people and assets.

The governor noted that the Senate’s recent alignment with the House of Representatives reflects a genuine dedication by federal lawmakers to resolve persistent safety issues. He emphasized that state-run police forces would better serve their communities by leveraging local knowledge of terrain and cultural dynamics for faster threat response.

Additionally, Alia praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership in pushing for these necessary reforms. The governor concluded by promising that his administration remains dedicated to funding security measures that foster lasting peace and development within Benue State and the broader nation.
