Solomon Dalung, the former Minister of Sports and Youths Development, has expressed deep concern regarding Nigeria’s deteriorating security landscape. He shared footage on his Facebook account showing a group of heavily armed bandits riding motorcycles along a public road, where they openly greeted stationed security agents without facing any interference.
Dalung characterized the event as a distressing indicator of how normalized criminal behavior has become within the nation. The former official emphasized that his remarks were directed at the systemic entrenchment of banditry rather than the individual officers struggling to maintain order. He questioned the safety and future of regular citizens as these groups operate with increasing boldness.
This report surfaces amidst a recent spike in violent crimes, including the tragic kidnapping of dozens of students and teachers in Oyo State. Other parts of the country have also experienced severe instability, such as frequent abductions in Kano, Zamfara, and Kaduna, as well as violent confrontations between criminals and local defense forces.
