Contradictory details are circulating regarding the kidnapping of Bayo Fabiyi, a leader within the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC), which allegedly took place this Monday in the Oke-Irese area of Kwara State’s Irepodun Local Government. Initial accounts suggested that Fabiyi and two associates were captured by gunmen while attempting to drop off a N30 million ransom along with other goods to secure the release of a previously kidnapped person.
These claims have been rejected by both Kwara State Police Commissioner Ojo Adekimi and Zubair Olaitan, the coordinator for the Kwara South Joint Security Network. The police commissioner dismissed the narrative entirely during a conversation with the media. Meanwhile, Olaitan clarified that the OPC leader was carrying only N2 million, rather than the widely reported N30 million, when the incident occurred. Additionally, the coordinator disputed assertions made by one of Fabiyi’s children regarding demands for motorcycles and bags of rice as part of the ransom package.
