Data from the Community Security Trust (CST) indicates that recorded antisemitic incidents in the UK increased by 21% during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year. A total of 1,926 cases of anti-Jewish prejudice were documented, marking the second-highest figure for a six-month period since the organization began tracking this data in 1984.
Policing Minister Sarah Jones described these findings as appalling, noting that many individuals are living in fear. Recent months saw significant events including arson attacks on Jewish facilities and the stabbing of two men in Golders Green, the latter of which was officially classified as terrorism. The CST observed distinct spikes in activity following these specific violent episodes.
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East remains a major driver of this trend, with 41% of incidents referencing the war, Israel, Palestine, or Hamas. Mark Gardner, head of the CST, warned that these attacks undermine British society and pose threats from various ideological extremes. Schools have also seen a record rise in antisemitic behavior, with reports climbing 59% compared to the first half of 2025.
Government officials have committed to a £250m investment to enhance security and police presence in Jewish neighborhoods. Meanwhile, Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp has characterized the situation as a national emergency, calling for stricter legal actions and increased enforcement measures.
