Ondo APC faction worried by low voter turnout during by-election

A group within the Ondo State APC has expressed concern over declining voter participation in the recent South by-election, urging the party to reconcile and regroup ahead of the 2027 elections.

Members of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State have voiced worry regarding a significant drop in voter participation during the recent Ondo South by-election. The Grassroots Movement for Tinubu, known as GMT, noted that the low turnout compared to earlier polls requires serious evaluation by party leadership.

Although the organization congratulated the successful candidate, Prof. Dayo Faduyile, their media director Ojo Oyewamide emphasized that this result serves as an urgent reminder ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Independent National Electoral Commission confirmed Faduyile, a former leader of the Nigerian Medical Association, as the winner with 68,474 votes.

GMT highlighted that this performance was underwhelming when contrasted with the 2024 gubernatorial election, where the party secured 126,196 votes. The group pointed out that despite prominent members of the opposition joining the APC, the expected electoral growth did not materialize. They urged the party to prioritize genuine reconciliation and unity to avoid internal fragmentation before the next presidential contest. Additionally, the group praised Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo for his continued efforts to promote party initiatives throughout the state.
