Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice presidential nominee for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has refuted allegations suggesting he intended to migrate to the All Progressives Congress (APC). During an appearance on the Channels Television program Politics Today, he clarified that his engagements with President Bola Tinubu focused on national progress rather than his departure from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Kwankwaso highlighted a political history with Tinubu spanning over 35 years, noting their shared service in the 1992–1993 National Assembly, their terms as governors starting in 1999, and their cooperation during the inception of the APC. While acknowledging that Tinubu sought a collaborative arrangement following the 2023 elections, Kwankwaso stated that these discussions were never intended to facilitate a party switch.
Ultimately, those initial proposals for partnership did not materialize. Looking ahead, Kwankwaso indicated that his focus has shifted to the NDC. With candidate lists formally submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), he confirmed that he is preparing for upcoming campaign activities.
