President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised that the development of two new service carriageways along the Southern Parkway will drastically cut traffic delays and boost growth in Abuja’s southern districts. Speaking through APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda at the project launch in Gaduwa, the President emphasized that this infrastructure expansion is a key element of his Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Southern Parkway acts as a vital artery within the Abuja Master Plan. Once finished, these service lanes will connect various neighborhoods, offering a necessary supplement to the previously completed main carriageway, now titled the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way. Residents in areas like Durumi, Gudu, and Gaduwa are expected to benefit from shorter commute times and improved local business access.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike praised the administration’s commitment to completing projects regardless of the looming election cycle, targeting a completion date before early 2027. He tasked the contractor, CGC Nigeria Limited, with maintaining high standards and speed, while vowing to remove any illegal structures encroaching on the site to preserve the city’s master plan.
Acting FCDA Executive Secretary Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda confirmed that the project includes three kilometers of dual service roads, two bridges, and necessary drainage and lighting systems. These upgrades are designed to alleviate pressure on existing routes like Shehu Yar’Adua Way and Oladipo Diya Way, marking another step in the government’s broad initiative to modernize the capital’s transit infrastructure.
