Drivers in Lagos are facing significant travel delays near the Anthony Village bus stop on Fusho Williams Avenue because of new road maintenance efforts. The closure impacts a key transportation corridor connecting Fadeyi, Gbagada, Oshodi, and Ikorodu Road, leading to sluggish traffic as crews begin excavating the area.
The service lane at Anthony Village has long been a source of frustration for commuters due to persistent potholes. Heavy machinery, such as rollers and graders, is now onsite to facilitate the repairs. Pedestrians are urged to stay alert as walkways near the construction zone are partially obstructed.
Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, announced the project on Monday. He noted that past attempts to fix the road with asphalt were undermined by frequent heavy rains. To ensure a longer-lasting result, the state has opted to install interlocking stones.
Crews are working continuously to finish the repairs within four days, though the timeline remains weather-dependent. Commissioner Osiyemi requested patience from the public while acknowledging the temporary disruption. Motorists are encouraged to consult traffic navigation tools and plan their routes in advance.
Traffic advisories suggest that those traveling from Fadeyi toward Gbagada or the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway should bypass Anthony and utilize Pedro as a detour. Travelers moving toward Oshodi or Ikorodu Road are also encouraged to seek out secondary inner-city streets to avoid congestion during peak hours.
