The Labour Party in Abia State has formally requested the All Progressives Congress to resolve its internal disputes before they escalate and compromise public safety. According to a statement released by Iroegbu Emenike, the party’s publicity secretary, the escalating public rivalry between supporters of Eric Opah and former Minister Henry Ikoh over the APC governorship ticket could disrupt the relative peace in the region.
The Labour Party suggested that these tensions stem from frustration among longtime members who feel sidelined by the prioritization of wealthy donors over loyal party workers. While clarifying that the ruling party does not involve itself in the candidate selection processes of other organizations, the statement emphasized that the potential for public disorder remains a significant concern.
In response, APC Publicity Secretary Uche Aguoru dismissed the warning, characterizing the Labour Party as a disorganized group facing legal uncertainty at the Supreme Court. The APC asserted that its own ranks remain unified under the leadership of Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and accused the current government of attempting to distract from its own performance record by focusing on opposition politics.
