The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has advised President Bola Tinubu that gaining international recognition will not guarantee his re-election. The party, through its National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, criticized the Presidency for portraying a letter from Donald Trump as an endorsement of the current administration’s performance.
The ADC labeled the government’s focus on international validation as a sign of desperation. They argued that standard diplomatic correspondence between world leaders should not be mistaken for a formal assessment of a nation’s domestic success. According to the party, the daily struggles of Nigerians carry more weight than messages from foreign leaders.
Highlighting ongoing security crises in areas such as Borno, Kwara, and Benue, the ADC noted that citizens remain plagued by kidnappings and violence. They pointed out that the United States Department of State still maintains strict travel advisories for Nigeria, categorizing many regions as unsafe due to terrorism and civil unrest. The party questioned how a country deemed dangerous by U.S. officials could interpret a generic letter as a seal of approval.
The ADC concluded that the administration should prioritize tangible improvements for the populace instead of highlighting diplomatic courtesies. Ultimately, they insisted, the Nigerian electorate will determine the success of the government based on their lived experiences rather than foreign correspondence.
