CAN criticizes Tinubu administration over Oyo school attack

The Christian Association of Nigeria has condemned the terrorist kidnapping of students and teachers in Oyo State, demanding that the federal government move beyond empty words to take decisive security action.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the recent terrorist raid in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The organization labeled the kidnapping of pupils, educators, and staff as a savage act.

Led by President Archbishop Daniel Okoh, CAN stated that the daytime invasion of schools and the subsequent violence against defenseless students highlight a severe failure in national security. The association emphasized that it is disgraceful for Nigerian students to face constant threats of abduction while in their classrooms.

CAN expressed deep frustration, noting that the public is weary of empty condolences from the government. The group argued that criminal networks are expanding into regions previously thought to be safe, including the South-West. They specifically honored the assistant headmaster who lost his life while defending the students.

In a direct appeal to the federal and Oyo State governments, CAN urged authorities to transition from rhetoric to decisive action. They demanded the immediate mobilization of intelligence and security assets to rescue the captives and dismantle criminal gangs. Furthermore, the organization called for the implementation of genuine safe school policies, insisting that the government must reclaim forests and rural areas from armed groups to protect the nation’s future.
