The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has successfully finished uploading its presidential candidate’s information to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal. Meanwhile, the party is now working through the candidate registration process for governorship and State House of Assembly positions. According to party leadership, this phase follows established electoral rules and will proceed until the August 8, 2026, deadline for final substitutions.
During a media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, announced a significant legal victory regarding the party’s identity. The original party logo—a basket of fruits set upon a map of Nigeria—has been officially restored on the INEC website. Dr. Major noted that the party had challenged a previous, unauthorized alteration of the symbol in court, resulting in a favorable ruling that upheld the rule of law.
Dr. Major confirmed that the party has already registered 365 candidates for the National Assembly across all states and the Federal Capital Territory. He clarified that the use of placeholder candidates in some regions is a temporary strategy while the party identifies permanent nominees. All 36 states currently have candidates undergoing the vetting process for local legislative and gubernatorial roles.
Addressing the upcoming 2027 general elections, Dr. Major called on citizens to engage with the party and participate in the democratic process. He expressed some dissatisfaction with INEC, citing administrative delays in executing court orders that caused unnecessary friction during the filing process. Despite these hurdles, the chairman asserted that the NNPP is stable and prepared to offer voters a meaningful political alternative.
