Borno State Government Denies Claims of Failed N4 Billion Railway Project

Borno State denies reports of a missing N4 billion railway budget, citing an administrative error in the 2025 report and confirming no such project was ever funded or executed.

The Borno State Government, led by Governor Babagana Zulum, has officially addressed reports claiming that N4 billion was allocated to a failed railway project in the Maiduguri and Jere regions. Professor Usman A. Tar, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, issued a formal statement on Monday to refute these allegations.

The government clarified that no rail construction projects were funded, awarded, or carried out throughout the 2025 fiscal year. Internal reviews conducted alongside the Ministry of Budget and the Ministry of Transport confirmed that no Executive Council approval was ever requested or granted for such an initiative. Consequently, no contracts were signed and no public funds were disbursed for this purpose.

Regarding the appearance of this project in the 2025 Budget Implementation Report—which incorrectly claimed the project was completed—the Commissioner identified this as a strictly administrative oversight. The government is currently working to rectify these records to ensure future accuracy. Officials emphasized their commitment to fiscal transparency and expressed appreciation for the public’s role in monitoring government activities.
