The Niger State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lauded Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for his role in avoiding significant internal conflict. Through active reconciliation and the promotion of consensus, the governor managed to stabilize the party before the primaries.
Musa Sarkinkaji, the party’s spokesperson, explained that Governor Bago and other leaders held extensive discussions with dissatisfied aspirants to stop potential divisions. These efforts successfully led to consensus in various regions, particularly in the Niger North and Niger East districts.
For example, in the Niger North district, candidates chose to withdraw in favor of Senator Abubakar Sani Bello, while similar efforts in the East led to the affirmation of Senator Sani Musa. These agreements removed the requirement for competitive elections in those areas.
However, the Niger South district remains an exception. Because candidates there could not agree on a consensus, Governor Bago instructed that an open primary be held to allow delegates to select their representative through a transparent vote. The party has assured members that the upcoming electoral process will be fair, with local officials overseeing the proceedings to maintain integrity.
