Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has pushed back against assertions by former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff regarding the viability of his coalition with Peter Obi. Kwankwaso stated during a Channels Television appearance that Sheriff is likely attempting to curry favor with President Bola Tinubu rather than offering a genuine political analysis.
Reflecting on their shared history within the APC, Kwankwaso maintained that his electoral hold on Kano remains secure, noting that even his detractors concede his influence in the region. He remarked that he prefers when political rivals underestimate him, as it allows his team to operate without distraction.
The former Kano governor dismissed doubts regarding Peter Obi’s northern support, pointing to Obi’s performance in the previous election where he secured over two million votes in the North. Kwankwaso expressed strong belief that the merger of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and Obi’s followers will fundamentally disrupt the status quo for the 2027 polls, particularly among younger voters who are less swayed by traditional political rhetoric.
