Pilot Dies After Light Aircraft Crashes At Sherburn Aero Club In North Yorkshire
Tragedy struck on Sunday, November 2, when a light aircraft crashed at Sherburn Aero Club near Leeds, claiming the life of the pilot.
Emergency services rushed to the scene just before 1 p.m. after the aircraft crash-landed on the runway at the popular flight club in Sherburn, North Yorkshire.
Eyewitness Liz Crossley, who was at the airfield with her family, described the horrifying moment the plane spiraled out of control.
“It took off and went almost vertical, then turned to the side before nosediving straight into the ground,” she told Metro. “It was only up about 200 feet when it came crashing back down. They called the emergency services immediately, and lots of police came.”

Police confirmed that the pilot, a man in his 70s from the Leeds area and the sole occupant of the plane died at the scene. His family is being supported by specialist officers.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has since launched a probe to determine the cause of the crash.
In a statement, North Yorkshire Police said:
“We are currently guarding the scene, and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has been made aware. We are not currently able to release any further information about the incident or the deceased.”
According to its website, Sherburn Aero Club offers pilot training, trial flying lessons, and recreational flight experiences to members of the public.
