ICPC Arrests Lagos Island East LCDA Chairman Over Alleged Multi-Million Naira Fraud
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested Muibi Folawiyo, the Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), over allegations of large-scale corruption, diversion of public funds, and abuse of office.
Confirming the development on Wednesday, ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare revealed that Folawiyo had consistently ignored formal invitations before operatives swooped in and arrested him at the council secretariat located at 42 Broad Street, Lagos.
“He is currently in our custody. He was arrested by a team from the ICPC Headquarters for the aforementioned reasons but has since been granted administrative bail. He is expected to report back today as the investigation continues,” Bakare stated.
Folawiyo is under scrutiny for allegedly siphoning council funds, engaging in unauthorized transactions, and using public resources for personal gain all in violation of due process.
Sources within the commission disclosed that the probe may involve contract inflation, ghost projects, and possible laundering of public funds through cronies and shell companies.
This arrest underscores the ICPC’s growing focus on local government corruption a sector long plagued by opacity and weak oversight, despite its proximity to grassroots governance.
