Mustapha Yahaya, a 40-year-old local from Ran Road, was taken into custody by the Bauchi State Police Command for pretending to be a DSS operative. The arrest occurred early Monday morning, July 27, 2026, when the Command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) stopped him during a patrol near Bayan Gari.
While the suspect initially insisted he worked for the Bauchi State DSS, authorities confirmed this was a lie after completing their preliminary inquiry. Yahaya is currently being detained for continued questioning, and police officials stated he will face formal charges once the investigation wraps up.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu cautioned citizens to stay alert and verify credentials whenever someone claims to be a member of a security agency. He reiterated that the police are dedicated to cleaning up the state by removing criminal actors. This incident is the third report of fake security personnel in the area within just one week, highlighting a persistent issue the police are actively fighting.
