The Abia State chapter of the Cooperative Motor Union has thrown its weight behind Governor Alex Otti ahead of the 2027 governorship election, declaring unanimous support from transport operators across the state.

Speaking during a massive Two-Million Man March in Aba on Thursday, State President of the union, Mr. Chukwuma Azode, hailed the governor’s strides in road infrastructure, calling his achievements “unprecedented.”

Azode added bluntly that “any opposition challenging Otti is taking a risk,” asserting that no serious politician should contest against the governor given his performance so far.

“From what we are seeing, I don’t think any sensible person should involve himself in anything concerning elections, because from what we are seeing, His Excellency is supposed to enjoy his 8 years.

“So, for now, any opposition that is coming out is taking a risk, is taking a very big risk, because we, Abians are in support of His Excellency, Dr Alex Otti for now, and no other person. And all the motor unions in Abia State are also endorsing His Excellency for 2027. That’s the part of our gathering here today.

“This gathering, this Million March is not political. It’s non-political, and I believe that there are a lot of people who love His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, who are here, and most of them are from different political backgrounds. So, what we are doing is non-political, but they are here as lovers of Dr. Alex Otti based on his good works in Abia State.

“We are here to show solidarity with His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti to celebrate all his good works in Abia State. Within two years in office, he has shown a great capacity. So, that is the reason why we are gathering here to celebrate him. We have a lot of people residing in Aba, and Aba, to start with, is a place that His Excellency has promised that he’s going to develop more, so that we will now get more investors coming in to invest,” Azode maintained.

At the heart of Thursday’s vibrant Two-Million Man March in Aba, leaders of Abia State’s transport unions heaped praises on Governor Alex Otti, crediting his administration with revolutionizing road infrastructure and transforming daily life for commuters.

Comrade Victor Azubuike, chairman of the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union, said the rally was a gesture of appreciation for the “smooth movement” now possible in the state, particularly in Aba. “We, the transporters, are the biggest beneficiaries of these changes,” he stated.

Echoing the sentiment, Dr. Obioma Nwaogbe, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, highlighted the strategic focus on Aba. “It’s the economic heartbeat of the eastern zone. The Governor’s road projects are deliberately centered here to attract more investors and make life easier for both transporters and commuters,” he said.

The celebratory march moved from Osisioma Junction through Aba-Owerri Road down to Asa Road, turning the city into a street party, as residents and transport workers turned out in droves to cheer the governor’s infrastructural push.
