Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally requested that President Bola Tinubu step in to address escalating political instability within the state. Adeleke cautioned that the region is currently suffering from violence and specifically requested that the President prevent Gboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, from exacerbating the situation.
This plea was made during a campaign event in the Olorunda Local Government Area on Monday, with the governor later sharing the details on his official social media platforms. Adeleke expressed deep concern regarding recent deaths tied to political unrest, emphasizing that the citizenry expects a secure and transparent electoral environment.
Adeleke encouraged the President to uphold democratic principles, noting Tinubu’s historical advocacy for democracy. He warned that the administration should avoid actions that threaten the democratic process, particularly with the 2027 general elections approaching. He specifically urged the President to restrain his nephew, Mr. Oyetola, to ensure that the administration’s reputation remains untarnished by state-level turmoil.
Reflecting on historical unrest, the governor expressed hope that the country avoids a return to the political volatility seen in the South-West during 1983. Adeleke concluded by reiterating that his primary goal is to ensure that the people of Osun are able to exercise their voting rights without fear or coercion.
