A 70-year-old woman is now under formal investigation regarding the death of Karen Carter, a British-South African mother of four who was killed in France last year. Carter, aged 65, was discovered with fatal stab wounds near her vehicle in the village of Trémolat, located in the Dordogne region. She had resided there for more than ten years, where she operated two holiday rental properties.
The suspect was initially detained in 2025 during preliminary inquiries but was subsequently released. Jacques-Edouard Andrault, the judge overseeing the case, confirmed on Wednesday that a formal charge has now been issued following an inquiry that began on May 7, 2025.
Following the April 2025 incident, Carter’s husband, Alan, described the experience as deeply traumatic for their family. He initially learned of his wife’s passing through a social media post and later confirmed the news by contacting local authorities. Alan remembered his wife as a warm, outgoing person with a good heart, noting that she was known for her kindness and love for others.
