Marius Borg Høiby, the 29-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been sentenced to four years in prison following a guilty verdict on two counts of rape. The Oslo District Court panel of three judges, led by Judge Jon Sverdrup Efjestad, delivered the decision after reviewing a 128-page ruling.
Høiby, who joined the proceedings via video link rather than appearing in person, was cleared of two additional rape charges related to separate incidents in 2023 and 2024. Despite his denial of all four rape allegations, the court found him guilty of attacks involving two women, including one incident at the Skaugum royal estate in 2018 and another in Oslo in 2024. Evidence included videos filmed by Høiby that demonstrated the victims were incapacitated at the time of the assaults.
Beyond the rape convictions, Høiby was found guilty of mistreating an ex-girlfriend, influencer Nora Haukland, along with charges of reckless behavior toward a sixth woman. The court ordered him to pay 640,000 kroner in total compensation to four of the victims. His defense team, led by Petar Sekulic, continues to seek his release due to the declining health of his mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who suffers from pulmonary fibrosis. Høiby’s legal representatives have indicated that an appeal against the verdict remains an option.
