400-Level Katsina University Student Shot Dead by CJTF Member
The Katsina State Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing of a 400-level student at the Federal University, Dutsinma, Sa’idu Abdulkadir Amir, allegedly by a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
Reports indicate that the Agricultural Science student and a commercial motorcyclist were shot by CJTF members on Sunday, February 23, 2025, after being mistakenly identified as informants for bandits.
Sa’idu died instantly, while the motorcyclist sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
In response to the incident, students have staged violent protests across Dutsinma, setting vehicles on fire and vandalizing property.
As a result, the university management announced the closure of the institution on Monday.
Confirming the development in a statement, the police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, assured the public that authorities are investigating the matter.
“The Katsina Police Command has commenced an investigation into a shooting incident involving a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF). The incident resulted in the injury of an okada rider and the death of a 400-level student of the Federal University Dutsinma,” the statement read.
“Preliminary reports indicate that on February 23rd, 2025, at approximately 11:26 a.m., a commercial motorcycle rider carrying a passenger, Sa’idu Abdulkadir, was stopped by CJTF members in a Hilux vehicle. One of the JTF members opened fire, injuring both victims.
“We are working closely with the school management and other stakeholders to identify and arrest the suspects. Further developments will be communicated in due course.”
