19-Year-Old Driver Arrested in Edo After Deliberately Hitting Three Police Officers
A 19-year-old driver, Nsikak Okon, has been apprehended in Edo State following a violent and reckless encounter that left three police officers injured.
The incident, which went viral on social media, was detailed today, January 16, 2026, by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Police Force.
Okon was reportedly operating a heavily tinted vehicle without license plates when he first sped past a police checkpoint in a reckless manner.
Upon his return, he narrowly missed hitting an officer before circling back at high speed to deliberately knock down three officers. According to police reports, the rampage continued as Okon’s reckless driving caused damage to several other vehicles before he was successfully intercepted and detained by authorities.
Two of the injured officers have been treated and discharged from the hospital, while one remains under medical care for more serious injuries.
Following his arrest, a search of Okon’s car led to the discovery of substances suspected to be hard drugs.
CSP Hundeyin condemned the young driver’s actions, questioning the motive behind starting the new year with such violent offenses. Okon is now facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, reckless driving, and possession of illicit substances.
