WSL Teams Permitted to Sell Alcohol During Matches Following Trials

Women’s Super League clubs will be permitted to serve alcohol in stadium seating areas starting next season following successful trials.

Starting next season, all clubs competing in the Women’s Super League are authorized to sell alcohol to fans within the stadium seating areas. The organization managing the league, WSL Football, has officially lifted the long-standing regulation that barred supporters from drinking in view of the pitch.

This policy change comes after shareholders backed the decision, supported by two years of successful testing. During the 2025-26 campaign, 20 clubs across the top two divisions of English women’s football participated in trials spanning 29 locations and 190 total matches. Participation remains voluntary, allowing teams to determine if they wish to offer these sales at all or only specific venues. Everton and Charlton Athletic have already signaled their intent to continue the practice.

While this change marks a shift for women’s football, the Sporting Events Control of Alcohol Act continues to prohibit the consumption of alcohol in view of the field for men’s matches across the UK.
