Global leaders have condemned the killing of American right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, warning of the dangers of politically motivated violence.
Kirk, 31, a prominent conservative commentator and ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, was shot dead while speaking at Utah Valley University in Utah.
Reactions poured in from capitals across the world:
United States – Trump: “This is a dark moment for America,” President Trump said in a Truth Social video, calling Kirk a “martyr for truth.” He vowed to hunt down “each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity.”
Canada – Carney: Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was “appalled” by the murder. “There is no justification for political violence and every act of it threatens democracy.”
Britain – Starmer: U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer stressed the need for open dialogue: “We must all be free to debate openly and freely without fear — there can be no justification for political violence.”
Italy – Meloni: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described the killing as “an atrocious murder, a deep wound for democracy and for those who believe in freedom.”
Israel – Netanyahu: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu mourned Kirk as “murdered for speaking truth and defending freedom,” recalling their recent conversation and invitation to visit Israel.
Hungary – Orban: Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban blamed “the international hate campaign waged by the progressive-liberal left,” linking Kirk’s death to recent attacks on European leaders.
The assassination has fueled global alarm over escalating political tensions and violence, with leaders warning it poses a grave threat to democracy worldwide.
