The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Osun State is facing a significant leadership dispute. A faction of local party leaders is now demanding that the National Executive Committee step down, citing claims of partiality and poor management. Furthermore, the group has requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pause its engagement with the state chapter until a legitimate leadership is selected before the August 15 governorship poll.
During a press briefing in Osogbo on Saturday, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, the acting chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), led the faction in condemning the national body’s decision to install a caretaker committee. Odeyemi argued that this move is unlawful and was executed without consulting local members. The friction began after the term of the previous chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, ended in February 2026, and the national leadership failed to hold a new election.
The group noted that a scheduled election for March 14 was aborted because the officials responsible for oversight did not show up. Despite assurances that a new date would be provided, the national office chose to appoint a caretaker group instead. Odeyemi expressed that this choice contradicts the IPAC constitution and ignores the democratic process. He accused the national executives of favoritism and incompetence, ultimately calling for their immediate resignation. The faction has made it clear that they refuse to recognize the appointed committee and will continue to push for a fair, inclusive election.
