Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has criticized former minister Rotimi Amaechi, claiming he is unfit for the role of vice president. Wike highlighted Amaechi’s active involvement in opposing the 2015 re-election campaign of Goodluck Jonathan, who is also from the South South region.
During a media session in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike asserted that residents of the South South still harbor resentment over Amaechi’s public calls to remove Jonathan from office. He questioned how Amaechi could expect support for a vice presidential bid after working against a fellow regional leader. Wike famously remarked that someone who actively forces their brother out of power should not expect to be ushered into a similar position.
Furthermore, Wike labeled Amaechi a disappointment to Rivers State. He claimed that during his tenure as a federal minister, Amaechi failed to facilitate any meaningful progress or projects for the state. Consequently, Wike called upon the citizens of Rivers State to vote against him in future elections.
