Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, recently challenged the credentials of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Bode George. During a monthly media briefing, Wike questioned George’s status as a founding member of the party by highlighting the PDP’s inability to secure any electoral victories in Lagos State since 1999.
The Minister dismissed accusations regarding his interactions with judicial officers and the construction of homes for the judiciary. Wike argued that being a founding leader should be demonstrated through tangible results rather than rhetoric. He criticized the lack of progress in Lagos despite George’s long-standing claims of party influence.
Addressing the conduct of party elders, Wike emphasized that while tradition mandates respect, the nature of political power struggles necessitates a direct response when false claims are made. He also revisited a past legal case involving George, noting that the politician was convicted of corruption after seemingly anticipating his own acquittal in a Lagos court.
