Widow of Police Inspector Killed by Convoy in Enugu Shares Final Moments

Mrs. Ngozi Isiwu-Obodo shares the heart-wrenching details of her husband’s final moments before he was fatally struck by a police convoy in Enugu, calling for justice and accountability.

Ngozi Isiwu-Obodo, the widow of 45-year-old Inspector Obodo, is grieving the tragic loss of her husband after he was struck and killed by a police convoy in Enugu last Sunday. A doctorate holder, Inspector Obodo served in the Operations Department of the Enugu State Police Command until he was killed by his own colleagues in a convoy whose occupants remain unidentified.

Mrs. Obodo recalled the last moments she spent with her husband before he headed to his duty post at a hotel in Independence Layout. After helping prepare their children for the week, the couple went to the bus stop where he insisted on buying snacks for their three young children. Before boarding, he told his wife to take good care of their family, a final message she did not realize at the time was a farewell.

Later that night, a call from her husband’s phone informed her of an accident on Bisala Road. When she arrived at the scene with her brother, she was met by police officers who prevented her from approaching her husband, initially withholding news of his death. She described her husband as a peaceful, hardworking man who pursued a PhD despite the financial strain of police life. She noted that while he held high academic qualifications, the force had yet to recognize them for promotion despite recent administrative requests.

Devastated, Mrs. Obodo is now calling on the police authorities to investigate the incident. She highlighted that the officers involved did not stop to assist, choosing instead to flee the scene after dragging his body. She urged the government to utilize surveillance technology to identify those responsible for the tragedy so that justice may be served.
