A survivor from a group of abducted residents in Kwara State has disclosed that 25 people perished while being held by armed bandits. These individuals were part of 176 people taken from Woro and Nuku villages in the Kaiama Local Government Area during a mass abduction last February.
According to the witness, who was among the 163 individuals freed last Wednesday, three captives lost their lives due to snake bites during their ordeal. This follows a joint security operation that successfully rescued over 300 hostages from both Kwara and Niger States after six months in captivity.
Bolanle Olukoju, the Kwara State Commissioner for Communication, confirmed that the government received 163 victims from Woro. She stated that these individuals will be reunited with their families following necessary health evaluations. The commissioner noted that two women delivered babies while held captive without access to medical support. When questioned about potential ransom payments, Olukoju maintained that the release was achieved through the efforts of Nigerian security forces, emphasizing the importance of the safe return of the citizens.
