West Bromwich Albion have terminated the contract of head coach Ryan Mason following a 2-1 defeat at Leicester City on Monday.
The loss marked a dismal milestone for the club, serving as their tenth consecutive defeat on the road and leaving the Baggies in 18th place—ten points behind the promotion play-off spots.
In an official statement released Tuesday, the club confirmed that Mason’s exit would be accompanied by the departures of assistant coach Nigel Gibbs and performance head Sam Pooley.
The final blow for Mason’s tenure came via a dramatic 94th-minute volley from Abdul Fatawu, marking West Brom’s sixth loss in their last eight outings. Before his dismissal, Mason lamented the team’s inability to convert dominant statistics into victories, describing the recent stretch as a “disastrous run” defined by a lack of clinical finishing.
With a gap in the league schedule, the team will travel to Swansea for an FA Cup tie on Sunday before returning to Championship action against second-place Middlesbrough on January 16.
