The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) announced on Wednesday that students from states with unpaid sponsorship fees for the 2026 Computer-Based WASSCE will be unable to view their results. Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, head of the WAEC Nigeria National Office, clarified that these results remain locked until the respective state governments settle their financial obligations. While the Council urged affected states to finalize payments, no specific names were disclosed.
Separately, WAEC withheld the results of 167,486 candidates, or 8.59% of the total, due to examination malpractice. This figure marks a slight decrease from the 9.7% recorded the previous year. Dr. Dangut highlighted that unauthorized mobile phone use and coordinated cheating remain significant concerns. Officials have already apprehended supervisors and invigilators found facilitating these illicit activities.
Regarding logistics, the exam took place between April 24 and June 19, 2026, involving over 102,000 examiners. The cohort included 1,213 students with special needs, such as visual or hearing impairments. Candidates with cleared results can access them via the official WAEC portal within 12 hours. Additionally, digital certificates will be ready within 48 hours, while physical copies will be issued in 90 days.
