Ukrainian forces strike major Russian oil facility in St Petersburg

Ukrainian military forces have successfully targeted a major oil terminal in St Petersburg and refuted claims that the town of Kostyantynivka has fallen under Russian control.

Ukraine has conducted a significant drone strike against a major oil terminal located in St Petersburg, Russia’s second-largest city. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the attack targeted infrastructure responsible for generating Russian wartime revenue. Additionally, reports indicate that a key naval base for the Russian Baltic Fleet in Kronstadt was hit during the operation.

Aleksandr Beglov, the Governor of St Petersburg, confirmed the facility was struck during a widespread drone assault, though he reported no injuries. While the full extent of the damage remains unverified, footage released by the Ukrainian military shows a drone approaching the site, followed by dense black smoke rising from the area. The military described the terminal as one of Russia’s largest, with a processing capacity of 12.5 million tonnes of petroleum annually.

In a separate development, the Ukrainian military refuted claims by Russian President Vladimir Putin that the town of Kostyantynivka has fallen to Russian forces. Military spokesperson Maj Andriy Kovalyov clarified that the town remains under the authority of Ukrainian defense units. Although he acknowledged isolated infiltrations by small infantry groups, he confirmed that these units were being neutralised.
