A recent assault on Kyeng village, located in the Bachi District of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, has left two individuals dead and numerous others wounded.
The incident took place late Sunday night when suspected Fulani militants entered the settlement and opened fire indiscriminately for several hours.
Barrister Solomon Mwatiri, National President of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), verified the tragedy on Monday. He denounced the murder of the two Berom men, noting that the violence follows a series of recent attacks in Barkin Ladi LGA that claimed the lives of over ten people.
According to a statement from Rwang Tengwong, the BYM National Publicity Secretary, the assailants ambushed sleeping residents in an unprovoked strike.
The association expressed frustration that security forces failed to respond to emergency calls, leaving villagers defenseless.
The deceased were identified as 22-year-old Peter Dung and 19-year-old Amos Bele Danbwarang.
Both were fatally shot before the attackers escaped into the surrounding wilderness.
The BYM described the event as a barbaric and inhuman continuation of violence against indigenous Plateau communities.
The organization is demanding that security services track down the gunmen and bring them to justice, while calling upon government authorities to implement robust measures to restore security and halt the ongoing bloodshed in the region.
