Operatives from the Edo State Police Command have apprehended two suspects, Pedro Festus and Omorodion Felix, for the kidnapping and subsequent killing of a 22-year-old man after they received a ransom.
The suspects are part of a notorious kidnap gang known for its involvement in both kidnappings and car thefts across Delta and Edo states.
Reports indicate that the suspects ambushed the young man, Joseph, in front of his house in the Uwore community and forcibly took him into a bush along the Benin-Akure Road.
The victim was reportedly driving into his compound when the suspects blocked his vehicle at gunpoint and abducted him in his car.
The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N10 million, but the family managed to raise only N250,000, which they sent to the suspects while negotiations were ongoing.
After receiving the N250,000, the suspects, despite the ongoing negotiations, proceeded to kill the victim and sold his car to an unknown buyer.
The suspects were eventually apprehended by the police, where they confessed to the crime and murder. The victim was able to identify them as neighbors in the same community.
