Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, is advocating for a more robust partnership between the police force and the judiciary to better uphold the rule of law and improve the nation’s criminal justice system.
During a meeting with the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, on Thursday, Disu emphasized that the two institutions are essential allies. He noted that working together is vital for refining investigative standards, bolstering prosecutions, and ensuring legal cases are resolved in a timely manner.
Force Public Relations Officer CSP Aniete Okokon Iniedu confirmed in an Abuja statement that Disu praised the judiciary for its dedication to justice and constitutional integrity. The Inspector-General also emphasized the importance of strictly applying the Administration of Criminal Justice Act to minimize procedural delays.
Highlighting modern advancements, Disu pointed to the police force’s focus on intelligence-led operations, forensic analysis, and digital investigation tools. He expressed that integrating these technologies alongside judicial capacity-building efforts would significantly elevate the efficiency of Nigeria’s legal system. The police leadership remains committed to collaborating with all relevant stakeholders to foster public trust and create a more secure environment.
