Kano State High Court No. 15 has officially opened the trial against Ali Sulaiman Adam, widely recognized as Gadon Ƙaya. He stands accused of the homicide of his spouse, Maryam Nababa Badamasi.
State prosecutors claim that Adam killed his wife and subsequently ignited the room containing her remains to hide the evidence. Upon hearing the formal charges, the defendant entered a plea of not guilty.
Lamido Soron, serving as legal counsel for the accused, asked for additional time to build his defense strategy and filed a motion seeking bail for his client. Justice in the case postponed further proceedings until July 27, when a decision regarding the bail request will be announced.
Following the hearing, the state prosecutor informed the media that their team is fully prepared to call witnesses once the trial moves forward.
