Agents from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Edo State have identified and raided a facility in Benin City used for storing illegal narcotics. During the operation, authorities apprehended a married couple accused of distributing these substances.
Mitchell Ofoyeju, the state commander for the NDLEA, confirmed the bust on Monday. Acting on reliable intelligence, officers searched a house on Sapele Road where the couple was operating.
The suspects, 32-year-old Christian Chukwuka and his 33-year-old wife, Nwanneka Christian, are both from Ndokwa, Delta State. Officials seized 22 sacks of skunk cannabis totaling 219.5 kilograms and over 192 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a strong synthetic cannabis variant. The total haul reached 412.17 kilograms.
Ofoyeju noted that this serves as a significant milestone in the ongoing fight against drug abuse in the region. He promised a full investigation to ensure the legal process is followed. While in custody, Christian Chukwuka blamed his participation on unemployment and the need to support his family, claiming he was introduced to the trade by an acquaintance. The NDLEA stated that the pair will face formal charges once the investigation is finalized.
