Toy Story 5 achieves record-breaking global debut

Toy Story 5 has generated over $300 million globally, marking the best opening weekend in the franchise’s history and providing a boost to Disney and Pixar’s recent box office performance.

Disney’s Toy Story 5 has set a new high for the animation franchise, securing over $300 million in global ticket sales during its opening weekend. Premiering on June 19, the latest chapter features Woody, Jessie, and Buzz Lightyear encountering a significant new challenge in the form of a digital tablet.

This performance marks a significant recovery for Disney and Pixar after several years of struggle. The film represents the second-largest global opening of the year, trailing only The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which has surpassed $1 billion in earnings. Toy Story 5 pulled in $160 million from North American theaters and an additional $150 million from international markets.

Given its $250 million production budget, the film must perform well to clear marketing and distribution expenses. Pixar typically sees its sequels, such as Inside Out 2 and The Incredibles 2, exceed $1 billion in revenue, though recent titles like Lightyear and Elio experienced poor box office results. With a history of earning over $3 billion since the series began in 1995, Toy Story remains one of Pixar’s most reliable assets during a period where the cinema industry continues to face competition from streaming platforms.
