Title: Canadian Girl, 9, Found Dead in New York After False Kidnapping Report by Father
A 9-year-old Canadian girl, Melina Galanis Frattolin, was discovered dead in upstate New York on the afternoon of Sunday, July 20, just hours after her father falsely reported her kidnapping, according to police.
Her body was located in Ticonderoga, about 30 miles from Lake George—the location her father initially claimed was the last place she had been seen.
An Amber Alert had been issued earlier that day, warning that Melina was in “imminent danger” of serious harm or death. However, investigators later revealed that no actual abduction had taken place.

The incident began when Luciano Frattolin, 45, called the Warren County Sheriff’s Office at 9:58 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, to report that his daughter was missing and possibly abducted, authorities said.
Both Melina and her father are Canadian citizens, according to New York State Police.

As the investigation progressed, inconsistencies in Luciano’s account and timeline led the sheriff’s office to hand over the case to state police due to jurisdictional reasons.
State police concluded there was no evidence of a kidnapping. Nonetheless, an Amber Alert was issued on Sunday morning, roughly four hours after Melina was first reported missing, and was later canceled at 4:18 p.m.
The alert stated the child had been taken under circumstances suggesting a threat of serious harm or death.
By early Monday, July 21, Luciano Frattolin had been arrested following the discovery of Melina’s body. He was booked into Essex County Jail at 2:04 a.m., according to the Times Union.
He is expected to appear in Ticonderoga Town Court for arraignment at 10:30 a.m., though formal charges have not yet been disclosed.
