Texas Man Confesses to Wife’s Murder, Lived With Body for a Month
Charles Byrd, a 49-year-old Texas man, has confessed to killing his wife and living with her decomposing body for weeks, reportedly telling investigators he wanted to “go big or go home” with his first criminal act.
According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, Byrd was arrested on Sunday, July 20, after a family member contacted authorities claiming Byrd admitted to killing his 44-year-old wife, Angela Byrd. Deputies later discovered her body wrapped in plastic inside the couple’s home.
In a disturbing detail shared during a press conference, Sheriff Salazar noted that Byrd, who had no prior criminal record, told investigators, “Go big or go home,” in reference to the alleged murder. Salazar called the comment “shocking” and “deeply disturbing.”
Byrd also reportedly repeated his confession to a local news reporter, expressing remorse and citing a “mental break” as the cause of his actions.
Authorities say the murder occurred on June 16, and Byrd stayed in the home with his wife’s body for approximately a month. He was later found at a nearby vacant property and taken into custody.
He currently faces charges for tampering with evidence involving a human corpse, with murder charges pending the official autopsy results. Byrd remains in the Bexar County Jail, where he is undergoing a mental health evaluation.
