Tinubu Declares Economic Turnaround; Claims States No Longer Borrow for Salaries
President Bola Tinubu has announced that Nigeria’s economy has successfully “turned the corner” under his leadership, asserting that state governments have moved past the era of seeking bank loans to cover payroll.
Speaking on Monday, March 9, while hosting traditional and religious figures for an interfaith Ramadan fast-breaking at the State House, the President reflected on the progress made since he assumed office.
According to a statement from presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed pride in rescuing the nation from the brink of financial collapse.
He noted that the administration’s reforms are yielding results, specifically highlighting the gradual rollout of relief for retirees and the newfound financial independence of state governors regarding worker compensation.
Despite the initial “daunting” obstacles, the President maintained that the country has survived its most critical economic threats.
Addressing national security, President Tinubu characterized recent spikes in violence as acts of desperation from defeated insurgent groups. He vowed that the government would not yield to “agents of instability” and reaffirmed his resolve to secure a total victory over terrorism.
To ensure long-term stability, the President pledged continued investment in education and agriculture, urging citizens to remain optimistic as his administration works toward a more prosperous and secure future.
