Security has been heightened at the main gate of the National Assembly ahead of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s planned return to plenary on Monday, July 22.
Videos circulating online show a significant deployment of security personnel, including armed guards, with stricter access checks being enforced at the entrance of the complex.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, announced on Saturday her intention to resume legislative duties, citing a recent Federal High Court judgment by Justice Binta Nyako in Abuja as the legal basis for her return.
However, on Sunday, July 20, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs Chairman, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, pushed back against her claim. He clarified that the court’s decision was only an “advisory opinion” and not a binding directive to the Senate.
The situation has added tension to the start of the legislative week, as both sides await further legal and political developments.
