Three Detained in Bauchi Following Fatal Stabbing at Naming Celebration

Bauchi State Police have arrested three youths aged 16 to 18 after a fatal stabbing occurred during a community naming ceremony in Kirfi LGA.

Authorities in Bauchi State have taken three individuals into custody regarding the death of a 27-year-old man, which occurred after a dispute erupted at a naming event in the Kirfi Local Government Area. SP Nafiu Habib, the police spokesperson, confirmed the arrests in an official report released on July 1, 2026.

Reports indicate that the disturbance began on June 25, 2026, when individuals from the Dosi and Tudun Sullubawa villages engaged in a physical altercation. During the unrest, the victim, Sani Abacha Alhaji Jabbi, reportedly suffered fatal machete wounds. He was transported to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe, where doctors declared him deceased.

The investigation led to the apprehension of three suspects, aged 18, 17, and 16. Law enforcement officials have finished their initial inquiries and handed the matter over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for formal prosecution. The police have emphasized their commitment to securing justice while encouraging citizens to pursue peaceful conflict resolution and share relevant information to help curb criminal activity.
