Tension Grips Jesse Community After Alleged Killing of Farmer by Suspected Herdsmen
The Jesse Community in Ethiope-West Local Government Area of Delta State is currently experiencing unrest following the alleged killing of a farmer, Ayo Abuneke, by suspected Fulani herdsmen on his farmland.
According to reports, Abuneke was attacked after confronting the herdsmen who were reportedly destroying his crops. His son, who had accompanied him to the farm, escaped the scene and raised an alarm in the community.
Sources revealed that the herdsmen responded violently when challenged, drawing knives and other weapons to fatally assault the farmer. They also attempted to harm his son, who narrowly fled the attack.
As of the time of reporting, some Hausa residents in Jesse have begun fleeing the area, fearing retaliatory attacks from aggrieved local youths determined to avenge the farmer’s death.
